Ever Lasting Spring Onions…

I’m not sure if this is common knowledge or if the experiment I’m conducting is revolutionary, but so far so good. After cooking up some fresh spring onions with my morning scrambled eggs,  I set aside the last inch of the white flesh and the roots. A friend recommended this so I thought I’d give it a go. I placed the ends of the spring onions in a glass containing a quarter of a pint of fresh water and put them on the windowsill in my caravan.

Having been somewhat sceptical at first as to whether this would work, after about 2 days, I began to see the green shoots sprouting out of the discarded ends. Two weeks in and they are continuing to grow to my surprise. They certainly look the part, but the taste test will tell…

I would recommend that if you are going to give this little experiment a go, its advisable to change the water on a daily basis as the bulbs will start to rot if left in stagnant water.

The experiment continues…
